Have you been buying Clothes where the salesmen or the
dealer puts the coat on your back, gives a hitch here or a pull
there, passes your hand over your back and shoulders and says:
'What a beautiful fit." That's one way of selling, clothes and one
wav of buving them, but a far better wav. according to our
- J J W r , W
t method of thinking, is choosing a size suited to the customer and
... - o -- :
giving him a coat to !ip on himself, a coat that sets perfectly the
moment he puts it on, whose collar sets close to the shoulders
and seems moulded to the form, a garment that drapes and fits as
only perfectly made clothes can. Clothes hold their shape.
If yuu have been wearing clothes that have been pulled into shape
with a flat iron, that will lose these good points after wearing
them a brief time, Profit by experience and let value enter into
your calculations.

For several hours today, Mrs. Em
ma Adams and many of her neigh
bors In east La Grande were thrown
Into s state of anxiety by the disap
pearance of Mrs. Adam's daughter,
Edith, aged 12. ' The little girl wan
dered away from home unknown to
her mother and later, shortly, after
noon, when the mother wanted the
girl, she was missing. Neighbors
Joined the searching party and for a
time, Pennsylvania and O streets
were scenes of excitement To the
relief of all, Edith was found far
ther down town, playing with some

Prayers for railroad competition
were offered by W. B. Sargent, who
outlined the phenomenal increase in
realty' values during the past 1
years. But lock of competition h;n
retarded the growth, even at that, li:
said. His message to the listeners
was a stirring and profitable one.
County fairs in the streets of Ii
Grande wer ably dealt with by Geo
H. Currey.
George T. Cochran created a vi
bration of enthusiasm with his plea
for a Chautauqua in La Grande, point
ing out that one Is soon to be located
in Eastern Orgon and that it Is up
to La Grande "to go get."
After the train of brainy statements
and frequent cropping out of
thoughts that would require columns
to properly lucidate, came the wit and
wag of the vening when E. E. Bra?!',
merely touched upon the topic "Ad
vertising to be had . from publ't
schools." . His remarks brought:
storms of laughter, and very fre
quently he punctuated his Jokes with
kernels of thought worth sleeping on,
J. B. Stoddard took another feu
ture, that of fruit organizations mid
unions. His outline and remark
were listened to intently.
George Stoddard touched a seldom
mntloned phase, that of securing fac
tories to educate the young along me
chanical lines and to have the tac
tories here to send out stuff rathe
than continue to send out money to
bring in stuff. . v v , . ,r .
Hon. S. F. Richardson spoke in
formally and in an impromptu man
ner that pleased all,' and healso con
fessed that he and his fellow farmers
'were .faring , ii; for not keeping - li,
touch and working in 'harmony v li
lle Commercial club. '
Fred. B. Currey touched up the oc
tr.sion with pleas for a heavy vote at
today's election, and after Mr. Collier
had thanked the guests for their at
tendance," tlie meeting broke up in
smiles and hand shaking.
All of the speeches delivered at the
Commercial club banquet last night
were taken down in short hand ver
batem by R. A. Hanna, court steno
grapher and will appear In the Ob
server from time to time the coming
month. ,. They are very interesting
and should b read by everyone.
