A telephone message from Mrs. John
Shanks, of Imbler, states that M
Shanks' health is greatly improved
since his return from Spokane, and
that he will soon be able to be out
again. '
Building Inspector Lauring n the
employ of the O. R. & N., who two
years ago remaned here for several
months, passed through La Grande
today en route to Enterpeise to in
spect new buildings there.
Harold !Carpy leaves early next
week for the Chehalis country, and
his position In the collecting depart
ment of the Pacific States Telephone
company, will be assumed by his
brother Stanley, captain df this year's
successful track team.

A very pretty wedding took place
at the home of the bride's mother,
Mrs. W. G. Hunter, in Island City.
Wednesday evening at six o'clock,
June 16, 1909, when Miss Addie Ada
'Huntter and Mr. Floyd Thomas Jones
were married in the presence ol a
few relatives and friends, Rev. C. E,
Deal officiating. The brlday party n
tered to the strains of Mendelsohn's
wedding march played by Miss Carrie
Hunter. Miss Stella, a sister of the
bride, was bridesmaid, and M. Chaei
es Reynolds acted as best man. The
bride was charming Jn a gown of
Japslo mull, and carried a shower
boquet of white carnations. The
rooms were artistically decorated with
a profusion of pink La France roses;
the same color scheme being carried
out in the dining room, where an club
orate luncheon was served. The bride
is an accomplished young lady, and
was very popular in the schools and
social affairs1 of Island City. Mr,
Jones was' formerly a resident ef
Island City, but for the past two
years has held a responsible position

ECLIPSE IS
ROT VISIBLE
A spectacle of great Interest to the
astronomical world is the eclipse of
the sun today. The phenomenon will
be viBible In its totality only In the
region near the North Pole, but it
may be seen in the western part of
the United States near sunset and in
the eastern part near stinrise through
a smoked glass.
Today's eclipse was due to show
up at Boston at 7:09, at New York at
7:02, at Washington at 6:56 in the
morntng, Chicago at 6:14, Denver at
5:18, Ogden at 4:48, at Seattle at 3:43
in the afternoon. The eclipse will be
seen In La Grande at about 3:40.
The path of the central eclipse
commences in Siberia, passing over
the North Pole, thence along the west
coast of Greenland, terminating in the
North Atlantic ocean near Cape Fare
