BAUD BOYS
The Hand Boys in the game Sunday
made such an Impression on the fans
that there are several more games in
sight. The one that will probably be
pulled off in the near future is one
with, the barbers of the local shops.
If the game is played it will be "one of
the fastest of the Beason as the barb
ers have good material to pick from,
and the Band Boys will get consider
able more practice. The barbers will
run In an outside battery,- probably
Nelson and Siegrist if they can come
to an agreement with the band boys.
The exact time of the game is not
set, but will probably be on the first
open Sunday here.

Mrs. Nancy Hanklns, 82 years old,
died Sunday evening at the home of
her son, William Hanklns, at 1402 X
avenue.
The funeral was held this morning
at the residence, Rev. Deal conducting
the service. Interment was made In
the Masonic cemetery.
Mrs. llankins came to La Grande
with her son from Oklahoma three
years ago in September. She was a
devout christian, a member of the
Presbyterian church the greater part
of her life. She leaves two daugh
ters and one son, by adoption. The
son and one daughter, Miss Susie.
were with her at the time of her
death. The other daughter, Mrs. Anna
Shelley, resides at Dallas, Texas. The
funeral was conducted by' Rev. Deal
in the absence of Rev. Seemann.

proceedings of the county court at the
June term.
In the matter of the monthly al
lowance to various Indigent persons.
It was ordered that warrants be Is
sued as follows: D. W. Souder, $15.00;
Maggie Slagner, $12.00; John Hilde
brandt, $25.00; Harry French, $10.00;
B. A. Garren, $12.00 and J. L. Dun
nington, $10.00.
In the matter of the application of
O. II. Law for rebate of taxes for
the year 1D08. It was ordered that
said application be denied.
In the matter of the purchase of
County Poor Farm. It was ordered
that the offer of Chas. Green for the
ale of certain lands be accepted. Said
purchase price being $6000.00.
In the matter of the purchase of a
teel Jail for the Coui't House. It
jvas ordered that the County Court
ie authorized to purchase said jail
;ih1 have the same installed at once.
In the matter of advertising for
bids for the construction of a steel
bridge at Oro Dell. It was ordered
that the County Clerk be directed to
advertise for bids for the construc
tion of Bald bridge. Said bids to be
accompanied by a certified check of
five per cent of said bid.
In the matter of appointing dele
gates to the National Irrigation Con
gress to be 'held at Spokane, Wash.
F. S. Braniwell, F. J. Holmes, Frank
Hempe, L. A. Wright and J. C. Pix
ton were appointed as delegates.
July 27th was the day designated
by the county court as Union county
day at the Alaska-Yukon exposition.

Attorney Robert Lloyd was one of
