If La Grande and Union county
does not forge to the front this year,
Conditions hare nothing whatever" to
do with it. We have the assurance
of large crops, renumeratlve prices
for everything we grow and export
Everything w sell commands high
prices and In addition to our natural
advantages the people coming Into
this great northwest are bringing new
capital which will aid In the develop
ment and within the next two weeks
work will begin on the Irrigation
project that will make It possible for
many of the large tracts In this Im
mediate vicinity to be divided into
small holdings. This also means sinv
ply the beginning of Irrigation in this
valley. Water will soon be all over
the Sandrldge and there will be many
times the number of homes that now
exist. The entire northwest is cer
tainly entering upon an era of pros

F, S. Bramwell, General ' Manage'
of the Amalgamated Sugar Company,
returned from Union last night, where
he had been attending business for
the company. H states that the su
gar beets there were considerably
damaged from the water flooding the
beet fields but that the water ia be
ing drained off. The prospects in the
Union 'district for a beet crop wert
never more promising. The farmers
were never bo well up with-, their
work at this season of the year.' He
also Btates that they will raise 100,
Q09 bushels pf wheat In the Union dls
trlot on land that formerly grew su
gar beets. The only thing that will
retard this enormous yield Is that tho
wheat will grow so rank that it will
topple over before harvesting .time.
This eliminates the prevalent Idea
that sugar beets will destroy the land
for small grain.
