IE HOSTS
Prof. Alfredo Battelli, the Italian
editor who is walking around the
world, and arrived here yesterday af
ternoon, waa last evening the guest
of honor at a gathering of the local
Italian colony. The affair was ar
ranged with all due attention to de
tails, and no banquet elrpn hv Amer
icans in honor of prominent per
sonages, "was ever more heartily en-
Joyed or appreciated. Macaroni was
the chief feature of the menu and
during the long evening the traveling
editor conversed with the local Ital
ians in post-dinner conversation. To
them he related Ms experiences while
coming from the mother land. In a
formal speech to the local colony, de
livered after the macaroni was dis
pensed with. Prof. Battelli dwelt at
length on the reasons why Italians
should remember their native. land;
because It is a land beautiful, and
more especially , why they should love
America; because It is their, second
mother country." During the progress
of the banquet the guest of honor
was presented with a beautiful bou
quet of roses from the American fore
man of the Italian workmen. Mr. Bat
telli today affirmed it was one of the
most pleasing events of his "'entire
