AfTER FACTS
"The Irrigation project of the Grand
Ronde valley is attracting attention far
and wide. As an advertising asset
the canal is worth considerable. Peo
ple coming through on the cars are
asking about it There is no doubt
that it will bring many settlers to the
county as soon as developments reach
a more advanced point." .
This Ib the statements of A. D. Crige
the W. O. V. organizer who is a pews
paper man of repute and devotes con
siderable of. his time to traveling.
Wherever his duties call him. he finds
men who are anxious to learn of tha
irrigation project in Union county.
Sheep With Seven Feet
William , Barker has at his livery
stable in Echo a freak sheep, which is
certainly a wonder and a freak of na
ture. The little fellow is only four
months old, but is hearty, well and
sound , in every particular.' In fact,
the sheep has seven feet, four of the
feet being on the right front foot, re
lates the Echo Register. .
Mr. Barker is making arangementfi
to take the freak to the Seattle fair
where it will be placed on exhibition
It is certainly a curiosity and should
prove a drawing card. t

V Different Story Than Jinny Ex

In an address to Grand Army Vete

Howard a new light upon the per
sonality of his war-time associate bud
personal friend, General -U. S. C-mnt.
He told a story of sleeping in the
same room with Grant at . Rrklpport.
Ala., during the war. A whiskey f.nsk
was hanging on the wall of the imm
and General Howard said he. apolo
gized to his superior officer.
"I never use it myself," said he.
"This whiskey probably was left here
by some soldier." ,
"Neither do I use it," answered
General' Giant, "and what ia more, I
am sorry any man in the army does."
Bid DAY IT
(ill'iiKifllAII
At Grange hall today, a host of
Blue Mountain grangers fire assem
bled as guests of the unntarrled mem
bers of the grange. Last winter a
contest was conducted in a literary
way, when the stakes were that the
losers should entertain the winners.
The married folks were pitted against
the unmarried and the contest waxed
hot as time progressed. Whn the af
fair ended, the young folks were the
losers and they have ' proven them
selves worthy losers this afternoon.
Speech maklnar, music and above all,
