PARADE WILL
BE A DANDY
iW. R. Jones and his assistants
have been doing a lot of work since
they were appointed to arrange for
the parade on the Fourth. . Instead
4
of floats representing the different
states, it has been decided that more
variety and opportunity for a beauti
ful display will be afforded by hav
ing the floats represent the nations.
To that end Mrs. Fred Schilke has
been made chairman of the committee
to get up a "carnival of nations," with
Mesdames O. E. SUverthorn, F. E.
Moore. W. L. Brenholts. T. J. Scrog-
gin, J. Van Buren, E. Polack, George
Palmer, E. E. Bragg, ffi. L. Eckley, N.
Molitor, L. Dunn and Miss Mar
garet Anson as her assistants. Each
of these will have charge of one of
the floats, and It goes without saying
that no feature of the entire parade
will receive more attention or will
be as beautiful as this. The order of
the uarade In nrHiiv An
upon, and will be as follow: First
will come the "Carnival of NationM,-'
led by the float representng the
United States, then the busincr.s
jhouse floats probably followed by
"Senator" Allinson's brigade and the
autoniobies. While this order Is now
in the minds of Mr. Jones' committee
as the one that will be followed, yet
It may be said to be tentative, and
can be changed.
The Japanese an 1 Chinese of the
county will contribute to the "carni
val of nations." About a dozen busi
ness houses have alreday signified
their intention of having floats in
the parade, and it will be remembered
that some very clever. one were shown
last year. Decorated automobiles
will form no inconsiderable part of
the parade. The Bafety of their
drivers will be assured by the en
forcement of the same rigid regular
tlons regarding the explosion of fire
works as prevailed during the parade
last year, ; '
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Moore have
rented their fine residence on Fourth
street to Mrs. Barry, and will move
to Portland for a year. They exepect
to leave Monday night.
