stream of water and had the fire un
der control. It burned the side of
the wall requiring the taking up of
several boards. Had the interior of
the England store caught before the
boys in the basement could have made
their escape through the cellar door,
we would have an entirely different
story to relate this evening.

Engineer Brandon came in this mor
ning from Portland to remove his
forces who have constructed the Wal
lowa branch to WashlugMii, when
the company is building another
branch lfue. Engineer Brandon con
siders himself quite fortunate. He
says for the last t wo years he has bud
bis tent pitched on WnSlowa rhvr,
one of the finest fishing streams in
the state and now he win be permitted
to fish hi Coeur D'Atene lakes.
This cleans np vomtruc tion -and
finishing details of the construction
of the Wallowa breach. He had plan
ned to complete the work by June 1st,
but by 'hurried and concerted efforts
he was able to get the ballasting fin
ished. The branch road now srauds
as a road completed.
