TO THELAKE
VERY LIKEtY
There will be a great excursion to
Wallowa Lake at Joseph next June,
under the auspices of the local Train
men and Conductor's orders, accord
ing to present plans. The only thing
standing in the way is rates, and if
they can be suitably adjusted, it is al
most certain the annual trainmen's
excursion -will head toward the lake.
Already there have been consider
able details attended to in this con
nection and as soon as the rates are
announced, the management of the
excursion will commence to give
the affair wide publicity. . If they can
duplicate the excursion last year when
Palmer Junction was visited, it will be
first class.
it is understood that a campaign is
being waged in Baker City to stop
Sunday baseball playing. Just when
this movement started is not known.
but at present a number of citizens
are working to the end that Valley
Avenue baseball grounds will have
a deserted appearance on bunctay
throughout the summer season.
While some seem to favor the idea,
there is a large number opposed to it.
and doubtless a heated contest will
follow if those favoring the measure
;ush their case..
Baseball fans argue that supreme
courts of different slates, where blue
laws are sacred and observed to the
letter, have rendered decisions that
permit Sunday baseball. Baker City
