, About 8 o'clock last night. Officers
Walden and McLachlen arrested two
fellows who were accused by E. E.
Ellsworth, a railroader with having
robbed hfm. of money and papers
while the three were riding In a box
car from Huntington to Baker City.
Ellsworth's story Is that he fell asleep,
and did not waken until he had pas
sed Baker City, where Collins and
Tire, his companions, left the train,
and took with them all his belong
ings except a C. P. It. switch keyi Ells
worth waited here, and last night
pointed the men out to the officers.
When they were approached with the
proposition to return' the stolen prop
erty, which had no Intrinsic va.lue and
square themselves, they refused to
admit that they were guilty, and were
arrested and searched. Ellsworth's
papers were found In their posses
sion. The tried to get rid of them be
fore being searched and threw .one of
his oooks, containing brotherhood re
celpts, clearances, etc., in a pool of
water. One of the men, upon whom
Ellsworth's pocket book was found
claims to have known nothing at all
of the robbery, and his story is cor
robuted by his companion.
All Released Again.
Late this afternoon the prisoners
were released on orders from the dis
trlct attorney of Baker City. The
state telegraphed for the return of
the prisoners and the principal wit
nesses to Baker City to be held under
bonds until court time, but the vic
tims of the holdup artists, have no
money and rather than go to jail to
be held as witnesses, withdrew their
charges. The men are now.fiee. .
