maintaining the illumination of Depot

Fred Young has released al claims
to the bronze medal for third in the'
pole vault at the trl-state meet in
Walla Walla, to his fellow vaulter, Jay
Millering. These two men tied for
third place and were to settle the
permanent ownership of the medal
when they returned to La Grande.
Mr. Young reasoned out a brotherly
act, he already won a third place med
al in a prior meet, and this being Mr.
Millering frst Walla Walla decoration,
he relinquished possession cheerfully.

waiiowa towns and newspapers
have been trying to "run down" the
report that a new passenger train
service is to be installed on the Jo-
soph branch in the near future. May
21 is the date set by them on which
ilia pioposed service Is to become ef
fective.
The trains, If they are put on, will
be outright passenger service, and
will thus make two trains each way
daily, on passenger and one freight
train. This condition of traffic Is
bound to ensue, but just when, it is
hard to forecast. Ixxal trainmen
know nothing of the rumor except that
it has been discussed at various times
It is known that O. R. & N. offi
cials considered the feasibility of
putting on motor car trains Instead of
steam trains. Which it will be is not
known either, publicly.
Institute Program Soon.
Within a shorr time the program
for the W. C. T. U. Institute at the
Central Church of Christ, May 20-21
will be announced in full. Mrs. E. E.
Shepard of Salt Lake will be the lead
ing light at that convention.
