In order to discover the cause, If
possible, of the 'pitting that occasion
ally occurs In the flues of their loco
motive boilers. O. U. & N. officials are
taking samples of the water used in
the boilers along the line and will
send the samples to Omaha for analy
sis. All water seems to contain prop
erties that cause the formation of
scale on flues, but "pitting;," which
might at any time cause a flue to col
lapse 'and eo kill an engine, has not
been very troublesome on this division.
