TRUCK POIf
If E. H. Harrinian. J. P. O'Brien or
some other official with influence n
the Harriman ranks could have taken
the painful fall which fell to the lot
of an aged lady at O. R. & N. depot
this morning. It is more probable that
more platform facilities would be pro
vided at once. With six trucks, and a
depot full of people trying to board
the outgoing trains It is no wonder
that the acident happened. In a hur
ry to bid her friends good-bye and
see them on the Joseph train, one of
a group of ladies stumbled on the
steering handle of a cait standing
directly between the depot door and
the train, falling with considerable
force. Fortunately for her, bruised
knees and a severe Jolting were all
the injuries sustained.
HOPES 10
There is great activity among the
high school students who are inter
eBted in ahtlellcs in preparing for
the Eastern Oregon track and field
meet which is to be held in Pendle
ton on Tuesday, May 25, says the Ma
ker City Herald.
The recent showing made by La
Grande at. the Whitman meet has
shown the local track men that tln.-y
are not going to have any walk awny
in many of the events, and if the;.
expect to win they must be prepared
to put forth their best efforts. The
:joys now realize that they are goliiK
up against a pretty strong proposi
tion, and are putting forth their best
itffnrts to meet the conditions. But
the weather has been unfavorable fov
consistent training and this has set
them back somewhat.
Baker will send a large delegation
to the Eastern Oregon meet, but will
probably send only four weight men
to the state meet, which is held on
the Saturday preceding the local meet.
Sending sprinters to the state meet
would put them in bad condition for
both meets, so it is likely that onl
the weight men will go.

the kind that makes the
