Eight determined. Well muscled
njembers of the La Grande track team
took their departure this morning for
Walla Walla to enter the til-state
meet. That they are confident of put
ting La Grande; on the northwest
arhletlc map with such vividness as
has never before been a fact, is easily
noticeable, but what they will actually
do.ls another matter. Carpy and Will
iamson wilt enter all the sprints,
while the captain will go after a boint
or two in the broad jump, and Will
iamson win enter the low hurdle and
the broad jumpi Reynolds will be a
potent factor n both the low hurdles
a,nd the Quarter, while Peare will
maKe a etrennous effort to duplicate
hfs performance 6f Saturday' in the
high hurdles. He may also enter the
half. Frank and Jay Millerlns -are
entered In the pole vault and high ;
jump, and Frank will tnk "' h '
discuss, and then his brother in the '
half mile. Heidenrich will ente"' all
the' weights. Young will enter in the
high hurdles and tfie pole vault. j
As is well known, 20 points should
win the meet, and whllo It is hardly
possible that La Grande can come
home with the laurels, there will be
some disapjpointment if several from
here do' not win their spurs.

When you are iuvited to visit an

mangy npndeseriptfi. The animals are
not; penned up in.;illy-ventilatef and
foul cdorej boxes ta be. gar.ed at by
the idly curious and tolerated by the
well disposed. Every animal is a
magniflclent specimen of its kind
housed in sanitary quarters, and.
moreover, every one has been taught
to perform In some one of the three
arenas with which the animal circus
is equipped. No more startling ani
mal act was ever witnessed here than
that of Mil. Altamore and the group
of monster Nubian lions, and while
bears are not much of a novelty out
in this section, the clown bear. "Bar
ney" Introduced in conjunction 'with
the lions' Is undoubtedly trained to a
point almost unapproachable by any
other forest bred animal.
.-And what is said of the animals
may be said also of the numerous
ker nianagement. One naturally ex
pects to find the more pretentious at
tractions such as the animal circus.
"The Broadway Belles," and Pharoh's

Individually it may be stated that
each is representative of the best in
its particular field, aud there is some
thing in connection with each one
that either amuses, interests, or in

The prevailing high wind made it
advisable to dispense with fhe double
high-dive of the The Two Latlips last
evening, and many were disappointed
In consequence, but the dive will be
given this afternon at five and again
tonight at ten o'clock, providing the
wind abates, as now seems quite like
ly. The aerial work of "The Great
L'eno" neyet fails to interest aud
(lease the multitudes.
The shows will continue throughout

iiven both afternoon and evenings.
Already quite a number of visitors

the week will find tho city
