A. whole car load of ladies came over: from Elgin today to attend the carnival. n Jlrs. T. Short returned from Elgin this afternoon where she had gone for a Bhort visit. I Clay Rinehart and Carl DittebraiuU drove up from Imbler to attend the carnival last evening. They made the trip in an auto. A dozen Japs went to a point seven miles below Elgin today where ex tensive track repairs will be made during the next week. Miss Addie Knapper returned to her home in Joseph this morning, after visiting her sister Mrs. Colon R. Eber hard for a few days. . '' ' Truant fficer I. W. It is pos sible he will return this evening or tomorrow and evidently with the pris oner, as he was aware when he lett here, where the fellow was headed for. Relative to his search, the Baker City Heralcr of-yesterday said. Believing that a former resident of La Grande is on his way to the Ox Bow project on Snake river, the same man having beaten a number of cred itors In La Grande, Sheriff Childers of Union county, passed through Baker City this morning to capture the run away individual and return him to the scene of his crookedness. St ? Delegates to the district convention of the Rebekah lodge which assem bled, in Inion ysterday forenoon re turned home this morning, and report a most enjoyable time. Besides the re-al business of the convention, in i r w hich the Ave lodges at Cove , Union. La Grande, SuninterviUe and Elgin were represented, and which is always Interesting, the delegates, about 200 in number, enjoyed immensely the sum tuous banquet provided by the Union lodge last evening. C. F. Hornecker. of Manchester. Kansas, arrived in La Grande last night and will make this valley his hlme. Mr. Hornecker worked in the valley 20 years ago, and has never forgotten its beauties and advantages. Andrew Lun. the prosperous North Powder rancher and business man, is in the city today. Councilman O. Phelps Pratt, Is over from Union today. . II. D. G.
