The Commercial club and the Park
board met this afternoon In the room
of the Commercial club and discussed
plans for carnival week.
Frank Bay and Jas. Stotts, who have
been doing the tin and plumbing worn
on the Island City mill, completed
their wohk last evening and returned
home. ,
Pat Foley,, who for the past eight
nionths has been riding the range in
Harney county, returned to the jun
gles this morning, after .spending a
couple days at home.
J. R Foley reurned yesterday after
noon from liurns, Hareny county, ma
king a record trip. Leaving here Mon
day morning, 220 miles of the distance
was made in an auto.
R M. Sherwood, "Sherry" in re
sponse to a telegram from the band
boys yesterday came from Hermistnn
last night for the sole purpose of help
ing in the concert tonight.
Wedings have been so frequent and
the custom of rice showers at the de
pot so regular that the little birds of
the city visit the platform daily, ex
pecting their morning meal. They are
seldom disapointed.
A movement has been started to
clear the property of the Union coun
ty fair association of debt, and turn
it into a combined poor farm and fan
' ground.
The plan looks feasible.
Frank Blanchard, who was brought
to the Grand Ronde hospital this
morning, was operated upon this af
ternoon by Dr. Upton and Dr. Miller.
A quantity of pus was removed from
the pleural cavity. Mr. Blanchard's
condition Is very critical.
S. D. Crowe, manager for the Home
Telephone company, to
day received a Wagner three and one
half horse power motor cycle, built
especially for telephone work, being
extra strong to carry 250 pounds. The
machine has an extra seat for two
passengers.
