S(atement8 from O. R. & N. officials
regarding the purchase of several mo
tor cars from branch line paaseni'-'i
service, has been given impetus lo
the belief that the La Grandc-Jcjseph
line will soon be equipped with such
cars General Superintendent Uu k
ley remarked in Walla Walla the u'her
day that a large consignment of :ira
had been purchased by hi3 coiv.paity
and would soon be put in service.

! Many people were yesterday won
dei ing why the Parker shows car
was standing on the switch here when
the show was In Pendleton. The car
left here, came directly from the East
and La Grande will be the flrtf town
' to see the new attraction, the 'Julius
town Flood" end 'The Alns."
WILL BE AT THE CAKMVAL.
The Seal Displays Almost Human In
tc! licence.
The arrival 1 nthe city of Al. G.
Barnes whose immense collection of
trained wild and domestic animals
will be one of the features with The
C. W. Parker shows during the com
ing season, has disclosed the fact that
a number of entirely new and interest-compelling
features will be intro
duced to the public for the first time
during tho coming week when the
shows-will hold forth on the streets
of La Grande in collection with the
Business Men's Carnival.
The various groups of animal ac
tors seen with the shows during the
engagement here last autumn have all
of them been enlarged nnd instructed
iu an entirely new line of acts and, in
addition a number of entirely new
perfornui's will make their Initial
public appearance when the shows
open ni!t Monday afternoon. Perhaps
the most novel of these, and one that
Is certain to embody a vast amount of
interest for the spectators, will be a
monster Bea.lion educated to perform
a repertoire of tricks.
He not only performs in a creditable
manner upon a number of musical
i.....t,i.ni '-fc.-ttie. -dmms
and a trombone, but he is actually
balances a ball uikw the tip of hi
aristocratic nose, and juggles flaming
torches with all the ease and dexterity
of an experienced performer. He con
cludes hie remarkable performance by
mounting a horae and riding around
the arena. Not only baa he been
taught to receive the plaudlU of the
EW
BOWS
gpectntots wir.li all the gtate of u ma-
'.inee Idol, but he dot-B something that
no piofeasioniil could do with impuni
ty for tliii actual burleB'iues hi? fd
inlreis striking his foremost fins to
gether in simulation of applause, and
then, us if to .how trmt he is desirous
of sharing all the honors with his
mount, he proceeds to caress the neck
of the horse before he dismounts,
much as an appreciative human rider
would do.
This remarkable exhibition, reveal
ing almost human intelligence on the
part of the sea lion, and super-human
patience on the part of his trainer,
will be but one of the many new feat
ures sure to be appreciated and mar
veled at by all who pay the animal
circus a visit during the BIohsoiu Car
nival. In addition to the various
groups of domestic and forest bred
nnimals there will also be seen tin
Immense boxing kangaroo, an animal
that clearly demonstrates his puglis
tic proclivities by engaging in a regu
lation three round boxing contest with
his trainer, at the conclusion of which
he proceeds to chase the referee from
the ring and remains monarch of all
the surveys.
Bent Treatment lor Colds.
"Most ordinary colds will yield to
the simplest treatment," saya the Chi
cago Tribune, "moderative laxatives
hot foot baths, free perspiration and
an avoidance of exposure to cold and
wet ofter treatment." While this
treatment is simple, It requires con
siderable trouble, and the one adopt
ing it must remain in doors for a
day or two, or a fresh cold is almost
sure to be contracted, and in manj
Instances pneumonia follows. Is it
not better to pin your faith to an old
reliable preparation like Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy,-that is famous
for its cures ot colds and can always
be depended upon? For saye by Al'
Good Druggists.
