CANYON CITY, Oregon, April 21.
Mass meetings are being held In this

purpose of gaining expressions of the
people ' regarding extension of the
Sunipter Valley railroad from Baker
City, via Austin.
Leading citizens are working ener
getically for-the road and it is ex
pected that the- meetings held today,
will have a strong bearing on what
will be done in' the future. Just how
much financial support will be pledged
is not able to be determined at this
hour, but there seems to be a freedom
of purse strings for the cause.

WALLOWA FLOAT l'LA.XS.
Drawings of the Portland rose car
nival Boat that will represent the re
sources of Wallowa county, have open
received and with a few alterations
have been approved. The stock in
terests have of course the most prom

and clover will furnish a beautiful
background of green, for the more gay
colors, relates the News-Record.

As the float will be a county affair

Representatives of amateur baseball
teams in La Grande, Cove, Union, El
gin, Perry, Huntington and Baker
City will meet in Baker City tomorrow
to arrange an amateur schedule.
There will be no effort set forth to
perfect a league but all attention will
be centered on the schedule, arranged
so as to give equity to all concerned.
Grant Lincoln will represent La
Grande at this meeting.
In view of the fact that there is to
be no professional baseball, here this
will of course prove the most plaus
ible solution. In this way the stand
ing of each team can be computed and
at the end of the season, the team
carrying the highest percentage can
justly' claHm the championship of the
district. . ., ' -
At present there is no Indication of
a Sunday game here this week.
