There is a growing sentiment ' at
Weston in favor of continuing 'the
Eastern Oregon State Normal School,
says the Weston Leader. Estfmatea
have been made, showing that by con
ducting the school along the most ri
gid lines of economy, It can be run Tor
about $!)000 a year.
The plan involves a union of the dis
trict and Normal schools, the public
and Normal teacher to be embraced in
the same faculty under the same bead.
About $4000 or district funds would
thus become available, leaving only
$5000 to be raised by private subscrip
tion' ; ':'' ;-'
As a half-dozen or more farmers in
the vicinity of Weston have already
signified-theic willingness to, pledge
from $250 to $r00 each, rather than see
the Normal close. It is thought that
the amoust necessary can readily ba
raisedfurther funds could be secur
ed from increased tuition, and the
boarding hall is self-supporting.
A similar plan has been followed at
Monmouth with much success. The
public school has been united with the
Normal, and through the aid of dis
trict funds, the Monmouth Normal has
been kept going for the past two years
and also during the referendum pe
riod, without any appropriation from
the state and. It is said, will have
30 Uormal graduates In June.

by subscription, or a High school by
