Interesting Contest On. "
At the land office today there Is a
contest case between the Uiilcd States
and Arthur D. Noble, of Pilot Rock, to
determine the ownership of a home
stead entry upon which Mr. Noble has
made 'final proof. The government
contends that the defendant In the
contest has not complied with the re
quirements of the law In regard to
the residence and cultivation.

of a pretty wedding yesterday whL
Miss Lodasca Howell was ..united in
marriage to Lee Graham of this city,
Rev. Willis of Elgin performing the
ceremony. The nuptials were per
formed before a large audience of in
timate friends. Following the wed
ding, a wedding dinner was served by
the parents of the bride, four tables
of 13 each being seated. Last evening
Mr. and Mrs. Graham departed for
Hood River, intending to visit Port
land before their honeymoon tour is
ended. They will be at home lu La
Grande in two weeks. The bride is an
accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
R, A. Howell. Mr. Graham has been
employed In the O. R. & N. office here
for the past year, and has a large
circle of friends In La Grande and
Elgin. .
