Miss Dana Striker was called to her
home in Elgin last night by tho critical
condition of her father who is threat
ened with total blindness.

F. K. Graham, who has Jmt re
turned from a trip to Portland with
a car of stock, took the Elgin tiain
for ills home in Elgin this morning.

District attorney Ivanhoe and At
toiney T. II. Crawford arrived home
this morning from Baker City . where
they acted as -Judges in the debate
last night.
Mr. and Mrs. John McDonald who
attended the presbytery at Baker City
were guests last night with Mr. and
Mrs. Turner Oliver. They left this
morning for their home lu Wallowa,
Street Superintendent Campbell will
go to Summervlllo Monday to com
menc construction of the bridge at the
Tall Glenn place. It will be a 60-foot
span. -
Several from this city attended the
game at Cove today. Those who went
as players were: Captain Ralston
Manager Myers, Earls, Grady, Char
les Reynolds, Geddes Blyatone, Pid
cock and Schofield.
C. 0. Morley, for several months
employed at the Palmer mill as lum
ber grader, left this morning for Spo
kane. He has accepted a position as

Iowa, looking for a location. Having
a ticket with limited stopover privi
leges. Mr. Nelson went on to Portland
this morning, but will return to the

There will be a meeting of Lincoln
Farm Association committee early
next week and until that time sub
scriptions will be received. Mrs. Ellen
Cross has collected the remarkably
large sum of f 16.25.
Condutcor Harned left laBt evening
for Spokane to consult with conduc
tor there before going to Boston. Mrs.
Harned and her mother Mrs. Goode
accompanied the conductor to Port
land Mrs. Harned will return with
her husband before he proceeds east.
Jack Thatcher, the well known en
gineer on No. 8, who suffered a brok
en leg several weeks ago, has re
turned from Portland and Is able to
walk about town with the aid of a
cane. He will not be able to re
sume his work for another mopth.

the Department of Oregon. O. A. R..
left last night for Baker City. He will
visit the G. A. R. posts at Baker. On
tario and Huntington. Returning to
I Grande on Tuesday, he will go to
Fnterprise. Joseph and Elgin. Mr.
Apperson Is on his regular annual
tour of all the posts in the state.

banquet at the Model restaurant next

event Is being prepared.
Fireman Stafford left last evening
for Baker City to relieve Fireman Cun-
liffff of the Baker switch engine, who
cornea in to take the place of Fireman
Chandler with Engineer Schilke on the
passenger run. Chandler has been
oromoted to the engineer's list.
A ' wreck occurred near Bingham
about 3 o'clock. It is reported that
an extra went Into the'dltch, but there
is no serious damage to the track, as
No. 6 came through on time. Division
Foreman Watson is out with the wrec
ker.
