next Sunday at Cove promises to be
ill to the high standard of the last
Sunday game. - The season hass tarted
out amicably, as is evinced by the
following from.M anager Stock of
Cove relative to the Sunday game at
Elgin.
"The ball game Sunday between
Cove and Elgin on the Elgin diamond
resulted In a shutout for the Elgin
team. Their was nothing doing on
either side until the 4th Inning when
Cove slipped one man over the plate,
followed by two more In the 5th, and
one In the 6th, the balance of the
game being Just one-two-three and
out.
It being the first game of the sea
son on Elgin grounds, both the teams
and about two hundred rooters were
escorted to the grounds by Elgin's
noted band. This game without any
exception was the beiuj ,nibition Of
amateur ball ever played la Eastern
Oregon. There were but two errors
charged against the Elgin team, and
none oh Cove.
" Neither pitcher walked a man, and
the Umpire Lee Tuttle. giving both
teams a square deal. Pitcher Smith
of Cove allowed but one hit, and was
credited with eight srikeouts. The
final score being 4to 0 in favor of
Cove."
