nothing If not exqulalte. A beautiful
confection Is the new auto hat, made
of an inverted flat culander trimmed
with pale blue cheeBe cloth. About
the only incongruous note in the
symphony of beautiful things is a win
ter hat, such as were in the height
! of uti le last season in I-a Grande.
This one, which is all right, only a
little out of date, closely resembles
an inverted coal scuttle, and is trim
med with a feather duster, handle and
all, ornamented with a bright egg
beater. The trimming is of pink and
white. The merry widow 1b extreme,
even for the merry widow. Easter
hose are also shown and contrary to
the usual styleB in spring hose, the
patterns are very quiet in tone. Only
some of them are wrapped with wire!
The garters to be worn with the hose
are of brass. Every lady in the city
will want to view this display of the
season's very best showings, and to
accomodate them, Chase Bohenkamp,
the artist responsible, says he will
let the window remain as it is for
some days.
CONTESTS

Notwithstanding that it was believed
at one time that many of the suits
filed by squatters in the 4-41 districts
of Wallowa county, new suits are con

continued hearing of a case started in
Enterprise last week, was commenced
here today. Cropper of Wallowa is
the Bquatter who alleges he settled on
the section In question and J. P. Mon
tague is the defendant. The squatter's
evidence was introduced at Enter
prise and the tlmberman's was com
menced here today.
Decisions from the dopartmet of the
interior are anxiously awaited in any
of these cases.
