Yesterday afternoon Mrs. John
Gardner fell through a trap door to
a cellarway, and almost miraculously
escaped serious injury. As It was
her little son, John Jr., who was
whh hi3 mother, was badly bruised
cn the thigh, the first Impression of
those near being that the leg was
broken. The little fellow is rapidly
recovering, and will soon be all right
again.
Otto E. Dedion, who for the past
two years made his home here while
employed with the Observer, took his
departure this morning for Milton

engaged In the mercantile business.
Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Green leave
early next week for Twin Fulls Idaho,
the greut irrigation belt where they
will make extensive improvements on
thtir homestead. Water will be tur
ned on 10 acres of their land this
year and they will live in a tent on
the ranch until a house has been
constructed. They expect to be gone
about six weeks.
The park on top of Skinner's Butte,
near Eugene, will yearly become a
more valuable asset of that rapidly
growing city.

LONG DOG RACE

will be run from Fairbanks to Nome,
Alaska, this month. This event is the
feature of the sporting year in that
section of the country. Thousands of
dollars exchange hands annually on
the' result. Last year the rate was

distance, arid' this Spring an "iVO-mile
course will test the prowess of the
canine contestants.
The race will be held under the
auspices of the Nome Kennel club and
is a selliag event. The winning team
-celves a f 10,000 cash prize, and
$5000 will be- disbursed among the
other entrants, according to their
position at the finish. Last year's
winning team has again entered as a
