One. of Union county, Oregon, to be
held at High School building In said
district on the 27th day or Morch.

legal voters of said district th ques
tion of contracting a bended debt of
twenty-five thousand dollars for the
purpose of erecting and equipping a
high school building, the vote to be
by ballot, upon which shall be the
words, "Bonds Yes." and the words,

Mr. and Mrs. A, C Miller went to
Wallowa Tuesday, and remained over
night to eee the play presented by
the Curtlsa Comedy company. '
Mrs. Freeman Ladd returned to her
home In La Grande Monday, after a
visit with her daughter, Mrs. O. K.

W, P. Samms received by express
Tuesday an India monkey, that' will
help keep Mr. Samms' Filipino monk
from being lonely. Mr. Samms . Is
gradually accumulating a small me
nagerie, and as the moneys are liable
to start a circus at any time, he will
soon have a first-class road show.
The Lostlne Reporter will issue Its
first number about March 15. It will
be published by M. E. Johnson, who
Is well known to the people of middle
and lower valley. She conducted the
old Wallowa News at different times
and proved herself a very capable
newspaper woman. A part of the
plant .of the Reporter was- purchased
of the Enterprise Press.
B. B. Boyd Is at La Grande taking
treatment for quinsy, an attack of
which was brought on by a cold ac
cumulated during his recent trip to
Portland. . Mrs. Boyd . went to La
Grande Wednesday.

M. H. Goodman haa sold his resi
dence to George Herring. We' are
going to lose Mr. and Mrs. Goodman
and family sooq.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Childers of En
terprise, returned home . from La
Grande Monday. They were with his
father, J. W. Childers during his op
eration, and report that he 'stood the
operation very well, although he was
still very low when they left. . '
I. S. Hotchklss shipped a car of
hogs from Joseph to Portland markets
Wednesday.
John McDonald sold IS cars of cat
tle to George Hanna of Ellensburg,
Wash., last week.' The stock was load
ed at Wallowa and shipped Sunday by
a special train to Ellensburg. This is
the banner stock shipment of the
year. ' "
L. W. Riley and R. L. Day Bhlpped
a car of horses from Enterprise to
Athena yesterday.

Hot Lake, where Mr. Swlger has gone
for surgical treatment. Mr. Swlger
is Improving nicely after his operation
last Wednesday..
. E. B. Johnson and family left Tues
day for Mabton, Wanh., where he will
engage In the blacksmith ' business.
Mr. Johnson is one of the old-timers
of this city and' his removal Is like
taking away one of the traditional
landmarks. Mabton Is an excellent
busings port and a growing town near
the edge of the reservation In Yakima
valley.
