Dr. A. P. Charlton is the originator
of an idea that Is meeting with the
approval of nearly every one who
considers It and that is for the, citi
zens who are Interested In maintaining
a first-class horse and auto racing
track, athletic grounds and a county
fair to co.operate with the county und
buy the property of the present Coun
ty Fair association to be Jointly used
fo rthe purposes above outline, and
also foi a county poor farm. Mr.
Charlton's idea is for the citizens to
pay one-half what the property is
worth and the county the other half,
bui the title to the property . to be
vested entirely in the name of the
county.

two weeks ago," writes Mrs. Hill,
daughter of Captain and Mrs. A.. M.
Paul of this city, from. Paris. She Is
associated with the Journalistic section
of the club. ;
"Mrs. Mason, wife of the United
States consul general. Is president of
the American section and received the
guests, numbering over 250, ; among
the mdistlngulshed people like Am
bassador and Mrs. White, Dr. Henry
Van Dyke, the last named giving an
address on the life and services of the
martyred president. Mr. Henry
Eames. whoBe exquisite music repre
sented, the three races, red white and
black, and It was typically American.

"A tea was given by Mrs. Hill at the
Lyceum club of Parla In honor of Miss
Felecla Lyne, a niece of Mrs. F. E.
Moore of La Grande, previous to her
departure for Spain, where Miss Lyne
Is engaged for a concert tour. Miss
Lyne has received flattering offers
from Coven Garden, Royal opera, of
London, but as an acceptance of same
would be binding for several years,
Miss Lyne will most likely be heard
In America before she appears In
England.
"Mr. Henry Eames, also a western
America man, but now numbered
among the great artists In the world's
art center, delighted the invited guests
at the tea with numbers from Chopin,
Schubert and Schumann."

mistakes and errors tha crept Into
legislation believed to have been ef
fectually carried out when the regular
session whs held. It Is reported that
the senators and representatives were
exacted promises not to Introduce
other bills than the ones needing attention.

Senator Oliver has not been ap
proached with any such a reitiest, but
it Is his opinion that unthing new will
be attempted, unless It is, perhaps, the
matter of allowing Normal school In
structors salaries up to the close of
the present school year.
There Is ample work In the matter
of rectifying mistakes to keep the ses
sion busy for two days at the least.
