office, that will be used In the land
fraud suit brought against Circuit
Judge H. J. Rean of Pendleton, who
I well known here, having sat on the
local circuit court bench to hear cases.

Circuit Judge H. J. Bean of this
city. Is charged by the government
with having wftfully, wrongfully and
fraudulently made filial proof umm

The chief witness for the govern
ment is Attorney J. T. Hinkle of this
city, who was the president of the Hin
kle Ditch company. He said the cm
purty at one time did enter into nego
tiations wiih Judge Dean to furnish
l:l:n with water for the land. A con
tract containing the terms of the
.-sgreement was submitted to Jtulfte
f!i nn, who asked for time to look i'
over and consider It. Hinkle asserted
that after the Judge had retained tin
contract for nearly n ' year without
having signed it. the company decided

under the terms specified, and asked
