J. B. Eaton of Union, has a chance
to land the appointment on the Ore
gon tax commission to be appointed
soon. He is favorably mentioned by
politicians throughout the . state,
though It Is generally conceded, by all
that Assessor Strain of Pendleton Is as
sured one of the positions becoming
a reality in the near future. The
East Oregoniun says of Strain's
chances:
Assessor C. P. Strain is now promi
nently mentioned as a prospective ap
pointee for the tax commission that
was created by the legislature. Un
der the law, one of the commissioners
must be a republican and the other a
democrat, or at least two different po
litical parties must be represented.
According to Mr. Strain he has
made no efforts whatever towards se
curing an appointment as tax com
missioner, but he has told a number
of friends that In alt probability he
would accept the post were It tendered
him.
In view of his highly capable work
as assessor for this county, Mr. Strain
has earned a ntate-wlde reputation as
an authority upon matters of taxation.
Me has many friends, local and other
wise, who would be glad to see him go
