J. H- PE AR E UADINGAIVD PI0EfR JEVYTLER In speaking of the development of the small fruit tracts In the vicinity of Freewater and Milton (Umatilla minty), which has been forging to the front the past few years, the Wal la Walla Union of Sunday, says: The development of fruit tracts has been In progress for two or threi years, but never has It gained the Im petus anil general favor which It now has. Owners of larue tracts were for merly aliaid to divide their holdings for fear of losing sufficient means ti gain their living. Rut It has been, and Is now being demonstrated that the small farm Is soon, very soon, to take the precedence over the large "ranch." It is also being shown to the satisfaction of the most pessimistic that the products of an acre of ground can be doubled by using proper meth ods and judgment of market condi tions. The days for the big ranches arc fast beginning to wane, it Is thought, and the next half decade will mark a marvelous change in the aspect of this part of Umatilla county. Already the outposts of the larger farmer are be ing forced farther back and every year in the future promises to see a still faster ictrcut of the same.
