Following an exposition of the work
of the order as has been seldom
equalled and probably never sur
passed in eastern Oregon, the ladles
of Esther Chapter No. 11, Order of the
Eastern Star, last evening entertained
the visiting members at an elaborate
banquet In honor of Mrs. Fred Schll
ke of La Grande, under whose direc
tion the drill team of the order had
been working and other visiting sW
te:s. The occasion was one long to be re
membered by those who were so for
tunate as to participate in It, and the
ceremonies and banquet which fol
lowed were exceptionally well attend
ed. Following the Initiation ceremonies
the drill team performed the beautiful
floral drills, In which It had been
coached by Mrs. Schllke and the re
sult of the artistic rendition ot the
graceful, elaborate figures of the drill
was a great delight to those who be
held It. The drills were worked out
by Mrs. Schllke herself, who declared
she had never seen them better pro
duced. "I am pleased and delighted," said
Mrs. Schilke last evening, "yes, more
than that. Relieve me, next to ray
mother lodge I shall always love and
honor Esther chapter."
At the close of the drills Mrs. Schll
ke was presented by Esther chapter as
n slight token of its appreciation, with
a handsome gold bracelet, me grace
ful presentation speech bring made by
the worthy matron. Mrs. Riley. Mrs.
('. A. Johns of this city, .Mrs. Bergman
of Sumpter, and Miss Taylor of Ne
braska were other speakers.
Resides Mrs. Schilke oilier visitors
at the lodge were Mesdames Alexander
of Pendleton, J. M. Berry of L.a
Grande, Bergman of Sumpter, and Mr.
and Mrs. M. K. Young of Prairie City,
and J. R. Romlg of La Grande.
