or two which notified the watchful
conductor the innocent looking basket
contained an animal which the rtilen
and regulations of the company pro
vided niUBt ride In the baggage car.
The ownere were politely informed of
the fact, but flatly refused to IntruHt
their family pet to the tender care of
the baggage master.
The brakeman, after using all the
methods at his command, notified the
Conductor that It would require more
brass buttons than he possessed to re
move the troublesome animal. The
conductor wired ahead to Chief of Po
lice Walden, who met the train, and
after a heart-to-heart talk wtlh the
owners finally persuaded them to al
low kilty to be removed. The basket
and cat were promptly transferred to
the baggage car upon promise that the
brakeman would report at each sta
tion how the I'ttle pet was resting. The
train was allowed to proceed.
