HE SUCCESS
Seventy odd couples tripped the
waltx at the Elks' auditorium last eve
ning when the La Grande fire depart
ment gave Its first annual ball. The
spacious floor was comfortably filled
with a crowd of pleasure-bent people
both young and -old. When Satur
day was one hour old. the capable
Heacock orchestra locked up lt" instru
ments and the crowd dispersed highly
satisfied with the evening's entertain
ment. From a monetary standpoint the
dance was a huge success, too. The
advance sale of tickets realized more
than 3100, which will be diverted to
improvement of the fire department.
Merchants who never attend a dance,
purchased tickets as a boost for the
department.
tickets sold than those taken In at the
nounced, the firemen made a lucceH
of this venture intu society, as It does I
well everything else that It attempts.
