FKANK FOREMAN DEAD.
Younar Man Well Known lloro, Sue
('iiml)H at IJncolii iMst Sight.
Frank Foreman died at ft Lincoln,
Neb., hospital at 12 o'clock last night,
according to a telegram received by
Mr. and Mrs. George L. Cleuver this
morning. The doatr. was not unexpect
ed, but nevertheless a shock to the
many friends of the deceased and the
bereaved family. Mr. Foreman was
' In the bloom of manhood, agod about
SO years. For several years he was a
member of the Bridges Concert com

came to La Grande to make his homo

SUFFERING IX PORTLAND.
Worst Storm In History of Oregon's
Metropolis Now Raging.
William Miller returned this morn
ing from Portland, where he spent a
few days and reports that the metrop
olis Is In the grip of the worst storm
In the history of the city. Last eve
ning when Mr. .Miller left Portland,
it was bitterly cold, though the ther
mometer stood at 6 above zero.
Street car traffic is practically
blocked, only a few of the main thor
oughfares being open to traffic. Sub
urban residents have to walk to and
from their places of business. Takpn
completely by surprise the city Is un
able to cope with conditions. Nine In
ches of snow covers the city. As the
trains come east they gradually fret
down to two or three Inches of snow,
excepting at Kamela, where two feet
cover the ground.

the local camp.
