the O. R. & N. has resorted to this
modo of coping with nature and avert
ing tie-ups th traffic.
The flanger was sent west" last eve
ning about 10 o'clock. General Super
intendent Buckley and Superintendent
Campbell happened to be in La Grande
last evening when the call fop the
flanger came, and with Engineer
Brown at the throttle an engine was
sent west at high speed to help clear
the way for No. 2, which did not ar
rive in La Grande until 6 o'clock this
morning. Tho path was made com
paratively easy for No. 6 which fol
lowed In the wake of the evening
train by four hours.

FUNERAL TOMORROW.
Interment of Aged Lady Will Take-I

The funeral of Mrs. Helen D. Tuckey
who died 'yesterday nt the home of her
son, . C. Tuckey, will take place from
the family home, 1202 Second street,
tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev.
S. W. Seemann officiating. Interment
will be in Masonic cemetery.
Mrs. Tuckey for several years suf
fered with rheumatism, but was active,
with exceptions when the attacks were
most severe. Yesterday she was in
her usual health, beyond a Blight cold,
and was up and about ns usual, and
a few moment prior to her death, was
sltllnir by the stove. Heart failure
was the cause of her' death. Mrs.
Tuckey came hero from Michigan last
July and during these few months
made ninny friends by her kind en'l
sympatic tie manner. Her husband
died U. years ago tills month.
