A Sprained Ankle,
As a rule a man will feel well satis
lie.) If he can hobble around on
crutches in two or three weeks after
spraining his ankle, and it Is often two
or three months before he is fully
recovered. This Is an unnecessary losn
of time, as by applying Chamberlain's
Liniment, as directed, a cure may as r.
rule be effected less than on
week's time, and in many cases within
three days. Sold by ell good dealers.
With six Inches of snow covering the
entire valley, the wagun has been
Abandoned today for the more con
venient mode of travel the sleigh.
Local liverymen have been taxed to
their wit's end , to meet calls for
sleighs and cutters this evening.
Slelghbclls tinkled last evening, but
those who took the tnltluttve and In
troduced the latest fashion, affirm
that the service at hand was at fault.
With almost continuous snow for 24
hours, especially as it Is a kind that
settles where It falls, this evening
should find almost perfect sleighing.
ricMM Ranchers.
The heavy snowstorm Is meeting
with favor among the wheatralsers
and fruit men. Rainy seasons such
as preceded the present snowstorm are
very detrimental to orchards. Snow
or continuous cold Is far more prefer
able by these classes of the valley's In
habitants. Lack of snow and suffi
cient cold weather last winter about
this time, combined to reduce fruit
crops last season,

"Shore Acre" Coming.
James A. Heme's great play, "Shore
Acres," which has been seen by more
people probably than any other play
In the last quarter century, is booked
to appear in this city at the Steward
Wednesday, January 27. Archie Boyd,
the character actor, is playing the part
of Nathaniel Berry. Mr. Boyd has a
strong company supporting him.
"Shore Acres" Is one of the greatest
of all rural plays.
Local HIM ut tlio Grand.
Victor Herbert and Glen MacDon
ough's musical extravaganza, "Babes
In Toyland," which Is being presented
at the Grand Opera house this week,
last night proved that It has lost none
of Its entertaining features. It is above
the. average from the standpoint of
tunefulness, and 'there were a num
ber of local hits which took well. Anna
Wilkes and" Eddie Bad way, as Alau
and Jane, who are lost In tne demon
forest by the orders of a cruel uncle,
and find themselves In the morning on
it otrnnc-o const, from which thev are
taken by a vessel to Toyland, filled the
parts well. Miss Wilkes acting her
role with particular charm,. She has
an unusually good voice. Vera Blair
Stanley, as Contrary Mary, was also
fjooil. Frank Kenmark, as Demon of
the Forest, took the opportunity to
Introduce some good contortion feats.
An odd incident occurred during the
play, which may or may not be pro
phetic. It was voting day In Toyland.
A scrutineer came on with a miniature
polling booth in his hand. Alan pro
duced a card, adn proceeded to Insert
It In such a way that the audience
could see the name upon It, which was
that of R. L. Borden, The crowd, when
they caught sight of the name, cheer
ed. Just as (he vote was being cast,
however, Jane ran on with another
card, which she handed to Alan. He
turned it to the audience, and on it
was printed the name of Laurler. At
first there was some laughter; then a
hiss was heard, and In a moment the
name of Laurler was being hissed all
over the house. Toronto News. "Babe
in Toyland" will be seen at the Stew
ard January 19.
