Are you doing your part to make
the Irrigation meeting on the the 16th
of this month the success It should be?
Mr. Business Man, you are vitally in
terested In this project. The success
of this undertaking moans the build
ing of no less than 100 new homes
within this Immediate vicinity. This
jncans the expendlturo of $260,000 for
Improvements. Then think of the In
creased amount of produce, fruit, hay,
etc., that -water . will , make on land
where nothing but wheat grows, and
in many Instances, nothing worth mentioning.
' This Is tho year when the oVnnde
Honde apple grower has an Inning.
Ten acres vf KQ"1 beuilng orchard, In
this valley Is sufficient to permit any
family to live in ease and luxury.
What a population this valcy will con
tain when all our fruit lund Is oecu
plod by a family on evtfry 10 aires.
Tfcere are several sections of the val
ley where this Is the case today. It Is
in these sections with the rural mall,
the telephone and the school house
within a few hundred yards of home,
that country life is Ideal.
These are the days when .the wise
man sees that the most social and
friendly relations exist between his
family and that of the plumber. TherM
are occasions when mere dollars and
ents do not reach, when the water-l
pipes upstair are flooding the entire
house, and you need the plumber Im
mediately; there may bq others In the
, same fix, but you have troubles of your
own that must be attended to at once.
There are million of people In the
United States who hope that Johnson,
the colored man, mny for years keep
the championship of the world as the
most brutal and skillful ,psir.eiiKi'i',
nd then, when, too aged toycmnln in
tho ring, the belt may remain with his
people.
The legislatures of many states are
either In session or will be this month,
and it Is surprising to note the extent
the temperance problem of this coun
try Is a factor. Tlio next Important
step will be to prohibit liquor in dry
territory.
The boys and Blrls of the Willamette
valley seldom enjoy six Inches of
snow. It is needless to say that thoy
are enjoying It.

What trolley lines have done for the
Frecwater-Mllton district It will do
In Union county, and tho sooner elec
tric lines gridiron the valley with their
terminals In this city, and Irrigating
water trickles over thousands of
Grande Honde acres, the sooner La
Grande will be a city of all cities In
eastern Oregon. The fact that prelim
inary survey for an extension of the
Walla Walla Valley Traction company
lines to Pendleton and Into the Grande
Honde valley by the Bummervllle gap
have already been made, leads far-
sighted boosters to bolleve that the
day is not far distant when the trol
ley lino part of the great benefactors
will be realized.
With the prop'er vim, the Irrlgntlon
project can be commenced next sum
mer, but It will take concerted action
on the part of locul merchants fo
prompt the promoters making the sur
veys for the electric lino, to urge the
good movement onward.
The wonderful . development thai
follows the advent of electric lines If
pictured graphically in the following
article from the l'endleton Tribune:
''The rapid sale and development of
tho small acre tracts for fruit purposes
in and about Freewater and Milton
hns made a great demand for money
in that locality, and the real estate men
and buslnes men are endeavoring to
locate capitalist there to ease the
mnrket up a trifle. The fruit lands
are on tho boom and the trolley has
aided materially In the work of get
ting now settlers Into that territory.
The diversified forming and gardening
which the umall acre tracts have cre
ated Is also beneficial In effects. The
business men In these two towns are
now actively endeavoring to Interest
tho Walla Walla Traction company In
building another branch line into this
section, and a large sum has already
been subscribed for the purpose of
encouraging thu venture. The Walla
Walla company has assured the resi
dents of the northern part of Umatilla
County that thl3 new loop will be built
If the sum of ff.60,000 Is subscribed.
The buslnes men, real estate men and
the farmers ar all liberal In loaning
encouragement to tho venture."

r FORD
MODEL T. $850.00
With a $2,000,000.00 cash paid in capital stock; with Henry Ford
as president and chief designer, with 25,000 good cars in use all bear
ing that quality mark, a Ford Imprint, with the biggest automobile
factory In the world making Ford cars, and with that same,' old or
ganization that has made Ford cars known the world around Waking
the present cars. Ford buyers have the strongest guarantee ever at
tached to any product.
Using the same steel, Vanadium Steel, that the United States gov
ernment pronounces superior to Krupp armor plate, that enabled in
ventor Davis to reduce the weight of his new torpedo from 1000 lb
to 40 lbs., the same steel that makes the safest steel rails ever turn
ed out, the most enduring locomotive frames ever manufactured,
Ford cars need no other defense as to their quality. Better material
than Ford uses cannot be bought.
With more good cars in dally use than any other manufacturer
ever built and every car a good car, every buyer a Ford booster, with
26,000 Ford cars shouting superiority, Is It any wonder that the Ford
factory has to work full force winter and summer, double snlfts at
mat, to fill orders, and that Ford has had to triple his capacity by
building the largest automobile factory In the world.
The very fact that, In spite of the enormous output, 100 cars per
day, the factory was oversold 3000 cars last season, Is a guarantee of
Ford value and your protection In buying. It's hard to give away an
inferior product the acr of qualit sells Itself. That's the reason for
the new factory.
So It's an exreclse of good sense to buy a Ford tho same good
sense that has already governed 25,000 buyers of Ford car's and the
first step in this exercise in the direction of a thorough Investigation.
Make us prove what we say or no sale If we could not, you would
be out nothing, when we do you get the biggest automobile value ever
offered. Come In today, or tomorrow If more convenient, or 'phone
us to come to you. We want to show you that we know what we are
talking about.
And thing of the money saved. In some Instances one or two
thousand, yes, three thousand dollars, and without sacrificing one
cent's worth of value. There is-some room for honest doubt that the
car for a thousand dollars more offers equal value with the Model "T"
Ford 4-cylinder 20 h. p. 5-pass' nger touring car at $850.00, so bank
the difference. It Is sure to come In handy for something else.
