. t.tu.lv'.r - " could save the 2
hours' wait at La Grande.
Waiting for the eastern mall would
delay the departure of the branch
train until probably 10 o'clock, but
that would not necessarily make Hie
train two. hours later at Wallowa
county stations as considerable can be
cut off the present running time of
seven hours from La Grande to Jos
eph. This is proven by the fact that
the train Is now reaching Enterprise
almost every afternoon at 2 o'clock,
or SO minutes ahead of time. An the
trainmen say the Inbound train Is
nearly always delayed at Minam wait
ing for the outbound. When the road
bed becomes settled and the ballasting
finished, n five-hour schedule would
not be fast time, with the train han
dling no local freight between Ln
Grande and Palmer Junction as at
present.
In addition, the rumor Is that No. 1
mr.y get Into La Grande an hour or
two earlier. The running time of that
train between Omaha and Hunting
ton wus recently cut to meet compe
tition of the Rurllngton-Northcrn Pa
cific between Chicago and Portland,
and another cut fur the same reason 1
anticipated.
Nothing Is said regarding the sched
ule of the . outbound trajn. Wallowa
Chieftain.
Sheepmen Will IV'Imhi Cyotos.
Immediately after the first of the
yearSheep Inspector W. H. Lytle will
lasue circular letters to the various
sheepmen of the county, to make a
special effort to extinguish the coyote
pest that has been so annoying during
the last yeur. The method to be used
will be by poison. Strychnine will be
placed on lard, tallow, old fish and
carcasses and placed where they will
bo found by the animals. It Is ex
pected that several thousand will be
killed by this method. It is estimated
by Dr. Lytle that last year over 10.000
were gotten rid of ln this way, and It
Is expected that a similar number will
be killed this time. Pendleton Trib

firmly believes every honest voter In

with political contests that are so
detrimental to the welfare of the
country during election years and
will permit peace and happiness to

Mr.' Johnson will be remembered by
