President-elect Taft In serving no
tice on the tariff revision committee
that he will permit no Juggling will
-doubtless have considerable effect upon
a few obstructionists. The great ma
jority of congress are in favor of an
honest revision, which nil concede to
tie necessary and desire. The people
decided that question at the last pres
idential election. They desired a re
vision and desired the republican par
ty to do the revising. From the be
ginning, there have always been a
nolfy minority that have held the tariff
up. as a monstrous evil, but seldom
have those been In a majority whereby
they could accomplish anything, nnd
when they were did little. It Is much
-easier to criticise than to create.
Congress adjourned tudny for the
holidays and will not reassemble until
.January 4. It may return with the
true Christmas spirit of forgiveness
even unto the president for his "In
sulting" .reference in his message re
Carding Becret service.

SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP
Vanquished, but not with discredit,
he senior basketball team today tins
been subservient to the undergradu
ates the Juniors for the third year
men last evening snatched a second
victory in the basketball series by
i arpy s whii'iwiuu fivld OiS ! tl"c
last half minute of piny, when the
.score stood eight, all. Final score:
Juniors, 10; Seniors, 8.
With less than 50 student and non
student visitors In attendance, the tw
teams fought stubbornly for the two
halves in a contest that showed re
markable Improvement over the first
game. While somewhat rough, that
element was not as obnoxious as in
' the first game, nor was there as much
floor work last evening, more playing
being done inaccurato passing and
snappy team work. As usual it was
the Bcniors who had the better team
work, but the Junior guards were too
i-lever to allow many field goals.
Reynolds, Green, Geddes and Carpy
threw the goals and fouls for the two
teams.
There was scarcely a star among the
10 players, but if there was one that
was more aggressive and covered n
greater territory than others, it was
Reynolds of the senior teuin. Hut there
are others who deserve special men
tion because of superb Improvement
shown over their previous records.
Among these were Green, who took
Chllders' place at forward, from cen
ter. King, who played h lino game a:
guard last evening, Ingle and Kurls at
guard. Holders was a new man in
the llnc-up, but bhaved very credita
bly. The other men, Geddes. Carpy,
Hamilton. Reynolds and Joe

hall that
characterized their work
at the last
lmc. I
In every respect the game was close '
and hard fought. The first half ended
4 n't, Vut Carry rot a goal for the
J'iniors toon after, having taken a
forward position in the second session,
i-i v int.- the Juniors a lead. Green, GeJ-
dea and Reynolds kept
the audience
ia doubt x.p to the last minute of play.
It looked like a tie game, but Carpy
did the business Just before the final
gong rnng. It was a very creditable
game Indeed, and If the pluyers con
tinue to show such rapid improvement,
they can screw up their courage to the
championship notch with Justification.
