ADAMS AVENUE
In 1904 In Denmark the government
Indued a Christmas stamp, with the
king's head and the word "Jul" the
name as our "Yule" on It. It wan
not good for postage, only as a "stlck
erj' for Christmas letters, postcards
and packages. The proceeds from It
were used for the support of a tuber
culosis hospital for little children.
This Christmas season the National
Red Cross society has Issued the stamp
In America, the proceeds to go to fight
tuberculosis In the state In which the
stomp Is sold. The Vlsltlna; Nurse as
sociation of Portland, secured the prH'-
llecg of selling It In Oregron. and evry
penny will go to fight the white- plague
In Oregon. .
A. consignment of these stamps ar
rived In La drande this morning an-1
ure now on sale at the Ferguson book
store. In Portland the sale has been
extremely flourishing. The "stickers"
are so convenient for Christmas pack
ages and the purchase of them Is really
n benefit to the buyer. They aie
small, attractive, and convey a mes
sage of "Happy New Year and Merry
Christmas." The supply at Ferguson's
Is not very large and the sale will no
doubt be brisk. The receipts are turn
ed Irrto the association without a cent
of profit to local dealers. This Is un
questionably a worthy movement, one
that is endorsed by Jacob Rlls, the
great philanthropist and leading
churchmen of the country. Bishop
Scaddlng of the eastern Oregon Epis
copal diocese, has placed his approval
on the sale of these red stamps.
