I' Diversity Glee Club Brings Air of
Campus and Frat Rooms.
With the coming of the University
of Oregon Glee and "Mandolin clubs.
La Grande people will once again
have an opportunity of witnessing an
entertainment out of the ordinary,
something full of spirit and vigor.
There Is no class of people on earth
that carries a more distinctive air, that
has a more typical bearing than the
college students, and there Is a par
ticular charm about his actions,
whether on or off the stage, which
make him more than ordinarily In
teresting to watch.
The Oregon clubs are composed of
typical students from a typical 01
lege and people who want a glimpse of
real college life Will not be disap
pointed In the men who represent th'
State university. On the other hnd,
those who love music for Its own ake
will find the concert all that can be
desired. Prof. Glen is recognized as
a musical director throughout the
country, and he has had more talent
and trained voices with which to work
this year than In any previous season
of the clubs. Critics who have seen
the first concert of the clubs this yenr
do not hesitate to proclaim them Uie
best that have ever represented the
University of Oregon. The stunts this
year, too, are more than usually cred
itable. Mr. Voight's dialect mono
logues, one humorous ana tne otner
pathetic, are of such a quality tha(
thny would do credit to any profession
al Impersonator. Van Dusen furnHn
es the most laughable element. Hi '
a genuine comedian and never fal's o
strike a resonpsive crd of merriment.
Besides these lead ng stunts, Ogder
and Gelsler have a piano stunt whl .
Is a "take off on the plnno fien;
the convict quartet appears In a soiit
and dunce, and there are se veral coin
Ic songs by the whole Club.
The mandolin selections, thren r
number, round out a well-balanjed
and thoroughly enjoyable program

ABSTRACT
will show yen the exact J
' condition of ycur
Baker After Branch.
Now that it is practically assured
that a branch asylum Is to be located
some pliice In eastern Oregon, there is
a number of Baker's business men who
favor making an effort to have the In
stitution located in Baker City, says
the Herald. It is argued, and with
considerable force, that this point is
advantageous to eastern Oregon, and
it is understood that a number of sen
ators and representatives have ex
pressed a favorable opinion regarding
Baker as a proper place for the branch.
There will probably be some united
action taken at once by the commer
cial bodies of the city on the matter,
as every cltlsen is anxious to bring to
this city that which will not only be
of benefit In a local way. but will also
1 of benefit to entire eastern Oregon.
Many things here are especially fav
orable for a branch of tne state asy
lum, all of which wlll.be thoroughly
reviewed to the legislature at Its com
ing session.
