MAY TAKE AWAY FACTORY
(Continued from page l.J
here and takes a final squint at con-
ditlons next Thursday, re will issue
the edict which shall be flntll At
stated, but for the right word at tht
right moment with the real powers of
the corporation, orders would no.v
have bee nlssued this week for re
moving the only sugar factory In Ore
gon.
The reason for the desire to mov
the factory Is wldespreadlng, and the
public Is not aware of all of them, but
the nrlnclDal one is that all companj
lands in this valley are exhausted as
far as productiveness of sugar beets Is
concerned. If water Is poured ove
the fields in the Immediate future, the
land may yet be valuable for sugar
beet purposes. As It Is, It does not
produc crops that even come near
reaching paying proportions.
La Grande will await with the
greatest degree of anxiety the final
word from the sugar king when he
comes here. It Is to be hoped that tht
Institution will not go. It is a great
payroll organization for La Grande,
it Is a credit to the city's Industrial di
rectory, and should the city lose the
factory here, It unquestionably would
be a loss and a setback in commercial
and Industrial lines that would require
years to heal.

Is concerned, was given the time-honored
Nodine case. The court instru -t-ed
the Jury to bring In a verdict In fa
vor of the defendant. W. T. Townley
was the deA-ndant, and therefore he U
the one mos- ;leased over the outcome
of the case.
The litigation was one in which Eli
za Nodine sought to recover her
dower right In some 2000 acres of
land situated between Hot Lake and
the town of Union, but Cochran &
Cochran, attorneys for Towntey, were
able to show that she had signed cer
tain deeds with her husband, Fred
Nodlne, which transferred all her
right and title to the property in
question. Mrs. Nodlne was represent
ed by Lomax & Anderson. It Is alto
gether likely that ner attorneys will
appeal the case to the supreme court.
