The past few days Judge Henry's
juvenile court has been busy with
cases wherein boys have been chin?
cd with transgresuing the law. In two
Instances the boys have been found
Tuilty-of offenses sufficiently serious
to warrant the Judge In committing
them to the state reform school. In
each Instance these boys have demon
strated that they have average Intelll

hloh;lf allowed to go uncontrolled,

must to a reason for these youths de-j

that they have been reared In an at

Influences. The parents have simply
taken it fo.- granted that the boys
would,' work out their own salvation.
And have made little or no attempt to
, protect them from evil associates .r
surround them with the proper re
straining Influences. They have been
allowed to roam the streets at will, at
tend school when they cared to and
play "hookey" when they'- so desired.
They have been allowed to choose
their associates regardless of their
fitness. They have been permitted to
continue practices, which; the parents (
must have known were at least not
above suspicion. When the officers
of the law have felt compelled to ad
minister a restraining hand the par
ents have been loud In their denuncla
tlona and perfuse In their promises of
watchful care,
La Grande Is destined to become!
the leading city In eastern Oregon,

right gnod and hard, you will help
things along and hasten the day when
this good old town conies Into her own.

The La Grande Commercial club Is
doing noble work In securing contracts
for the trrlgstlon project. There is
really no way to estimate In cold dol
lars the value to this valley which will
result from the completion of this
project. Are you offering the matter
any assistance?
La Grande seems In a fair way to
secure many good things this com
ing year, and one of the most valua
ble acquisitions will be the public park
which the ladles are going to present
to the city. '

This is the store where the things you want don't cost ''just
a little bit more than you had planned to pay". We have purchased
such astounding quantities of timely merchandise that we've been
able to dictate pretty strongly to the manufacturers and so you'll
find the things you'll want here, for prices that are a good deal less
than you've been used to paying. That all means that your , Ghrist
mas list may be made out generously and that you'll save substan
tiilly on every purchase you make. If Santa Glaus himself isn't at
this store right now, he ought to be; he'd feel quite'at home among
the great piles of useful holiday things that crowd the counters.
Gome and at once if you wish to abolish worries and enjoy every
minute you spend in planning for Christmas.
