nlng a cool million dollars wai added
to the value of the Blaock fruit ranch
west of thla city. At the same time
untold value vu added to the prop-
f jerty of the entire Walla Walla valley.

The drill that solved the problem
haa for the past week or more been
driving and pounding at the bottom of
the old well aunk some six yean ago
on the Blalock ranch Just outside the
military reservation, and at 9 o'clock
last evening dropped through a strata
of solid rock 20 feet In thickness. Im
mediately the water rushed up
through the Iron casing and, rose in
the air to a height of, two feet. It
waa estimated by the man in charge
of the drill at the time that when con
fined to a smaller nozzle the pressure
would be 90 pounds to the square
Inch, but Manager A. J. Tourtellottee
of the Blalock ranch thinks that prob
ably 50 pounds will be nearer right.
At any rate the fact woe established
that artesian water In gushing quanti
ties can be had at any point west of
the city by driving a well to a depth
of 660 feet.
