"The No
Discouraged and despondent over
being out of work and other troubles,
Bert Wlnkley, who formerly lived oi
Pilot Rock, killed himself In Grant
county last Monday, says the Pendle
ton East Oregonlan. He shot himself
with a rifle and the bullet evidently
killed him Instantly, as he was dead
Wlnkley was a young man and was
the son-in-law of 1. G. Bogard, for
merly of Pilot Rock. His wife was a
daughter of Mrs". Bogard by a former
husband. With his wife Wlnkley had
been living on the. Bogard place, 85
miles south of Uklah.
According to a 'phone message re
ceived from Ukjah by the Pilot Rock
Record, the young man had trouble
with his father-in-law and was or
dered off the Bogard place. Leaving
that place, W'inkley and his wife then
went out to the Gene Thompson place
In the same neighborhood. From there
Wlnkley came to Uklah to secure
work. He failed to find any and re
turned to the Thomposn place In a
disconsolate frame of mind.
Upon arriving at the ranch he so
cured a rifle, pointed the gun under
his chin and pulled the trigger with
his foot. He was not found until some
time later and all the circumstances
Indicate that he killed himself through
despondency.

land, and has been making more or
less trouble since his arrival, was
