, PEXDLETOX TEAM UETl RXS.
I'layed a 0 to 0 Game at Baker, But
Holds Eastern Championship.
Joyous that they were not defeated,
ahd claiming the championship ' of
eastern Oregon, the Pendleton football
team passed 'through La .Grande this
morning en route home after. having
played a 0 to 0 game at Baker City
yesterday. La Grande enthusiasts who
saw the game, affirm that Pendleton
outplayed Baker City, but displayed
poor Judgment and had "Friday, the
13th" luck In lts'attompt at goals from
placement Five times Pendleton gave
the ball to Captain Baker, the usually
clever foot artist, but as many times
he missed the goal. Baker City tiled
a placement once. Following the game
last night an arbitration meeting was
held to decide a point in rules that
came up during the game, which if
not decided as it was, would have
given Pendleton the game, 2 to 0. But
the Incident was declared a touchback
rather than a safety. It was also de-
tided that by vli tua of having defeated
La Grande by a decisive score, a team
In turn had In reality defeated Ba
ker City, and also that Pendleton held
the championship last year and has
not had the honor wrested from It this
season by a decisive defeat, that Pen
dleton theoretically holds the eastern
Oregon championship. ; '

After several days of work'construc

case, the heavy steel girders will be
placed, and the main line approaches
raised 20 inches. The bridge is to be
20, Inches higher than the noe now
there,' necessitating a raising wt me
main line on each side of Jt for a dis
