house In the railroad yards, that Is to
soon serve as a flr, alarm system, If
It. works out favoribly. A siren ar
rived some time ago for" this purpose
but was deemed Impractical. Now the

public as nearly as possible the exact

Numerous experiments wero made
with the whistle today, but It did not
prove entirely satisfactory. It Is bare
ly possible that the siren may yet be
adopted.
It Is the purpose of the fire and wa
ter committee of the council to place
electric alarm appliances at the city
hall and at the Home Independent
Telephone office. When these are In
stalled, and the best whistle for the
purpose decided upon, full announce
ment ot the code and alarm system
will be announced. '

According to the rumor" there. It is
Mr, Coolidge of Spokane, a brother-in-law
of Mr. Serlber, who Is planning on
coming: to the aid of the defaulter and
making good the large shortpge. Mr.
Pierce was unable to gain positive or

that the rumors are. afloat , in such
substantial circles, as to give them
