Affair.
A meeting was held yesterday after
noon by a group of old-time political
workers of the several parties, owing
to the change in the manner of con
ducting elections In this state which
prohibits active work, personal solici
tation, the running of carriages, dis
playing of banners-ln fact, a com
plete phange In our former 'custom as
viewed by those who always bore the
brunt of the battle on election day, In
order that they, may pass away the
time quite an extensive program (has
been arranged. It Is the Intention to
cover the entire " day," commencing
with the opening of the polls In the
morning at 8 o'clock' and continuing
until 7 in the evening. A recess will
be given from 12 until 2 o'clock, dur
ing which time those in attendance
can visit their respective polling
places and silently and without dem
onstration, deopsit their ballot ' and
return Immediately. )
The program will be subject to
change, and several Invited to par
take, have not sent In their accept
ance, but the following well known

derstood that the participants will be
too tired to sit up as in former year
to await the election returns. An
other year the boys will be prepared,
and a more extensive program will be
arranged.
As far as Oregon Is concerned, it is
all over but the shouting; and we can
not even shout on election day. under
the new law. V
