Word has been received by The Ob
server that work in the Vale oil field
in progressing so satisfactorily, that it
will be only a short time until . the
greatest oil producing fields in the
I country.
A number of experts from the oil
fields of Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsyl
vania, California and Texas have
been investigating the extent, and pro
ductiveness of the Vale field, and all
unite in saying that the oil la there In
paying quantities and that it la only
a question of reaching the oil strata
to obtain the oil. One expert says that
the Oregon' fleld will be the greatest
in the world outside of Russia. An
other that out of five producing wells,
four wilf be "gushers." ' .
, The Malheur1 company that was de
layed during the summer, has at last
overcome the difficulties' they encoun
tered and are going ahead at a rapid
rate. The Columbia company Is
working a day and a night shift.
1 The Mammoth Oil & .Gas company,
recently organized by La Grande and
Union people,' have shipped the tim
bers for their derrick and have sent a
man to California to purchase a
standard rig. They will be prepared
to go to anynecfessary depth to strike
oil. This company has. Immense hold
ings In the Vale field, between Yale
and Nyssa. The 12 sections they own
wero selected by R. W. Ames, an ex
pert of wide experience in oil fields,
after a thorough examination of the
entire field.
The Mammoth Oil and Gnss com
puny placed 25,000 shares on the mar
ket at 15 cents and the entire amount
was taken at once.
