Three thousand apple trees are be-
' Jng distributed in this city today. It
wlll not be a very long period until
these 8000 trees will be sending 20
carloads of fruit to far-away markets.
Our fruit Interests are developing more
rapidly than many realize. W will
soon be sending solid tralnloads of ap
ples from Grande Ronde valley. When
- we do, we will get better prices tnan
we are now receiving. When buyers
,cnn go to one locality and fill their
orders, they are willing to pay more
than If they have to, scour the entire
country and get a few carlouds here
and a few there. We have thousands
Ct acres of fine fruit land, and ' each
year notes the Increased acreage.

This is President Roosevelt's birth
day. He Is 50 years of age and la one
of the liveliest combinations of fleiih
and blood that has been produced In
'this country. We, as a nation, may
ever know to what extent we are In- j
debted to this peerless leader. , He
' dared to do right and did It. The
United States is today on a Jilgher
plane than It has ever been. We are
beginning to respect law. This Is a
Wealthy state, and meana anything but
atagnatlon, commerciaTly and morally.

y-U is too bad that Thanksgiving
comes so soon after a presidential

If you cannot pick out the presiden

mututal agreement and the proprietors
and most "Of the clerks will attend the
meeting. ' .
Judee Beott of Salem, who will be
the moving spirit, will arrive tonight
from Baker City, and be In attendance
with his live boosting wires. That he
will Inculcate a virus of good roaas
fever is a foregone conclusion..; Far
mers to the number of 200 or 800 have
been notified by special or roundabout
Invitations, and it Is thought many of
them will attend.
It behooves the city Itself to attend
as a body as farmers feel this Is not a
meeting for them alone, but for every
one. Automo&ue men oi in? cmuuy
have been generous in meeting ex
penses of the convention and they are
especially invited to attend this talk
