Bryan's Chances Bright. i
'Captain Hobson thinks Bryan's
chances are bright His stop in Pen
dleton waa the only stop made upon
his present trip from Washington, D.
C. except about three hours spent In
consultation with the democratic na
tional committee In Chicago, From
his study of the situation' in Washing
ton, and later in Chicago, Captain
Hobson affirms that Mr. Bryan's
chances were never better, and ex
presses a strong hope for democratic
success, based upon a conviction of
the desire in the people for a change.
captain Hobson believes that unless
vast sums of money are poured Into
New York, Ohio and Indiana during
the last few days of the campaign for
the purpose of buying votes that Mr.
Bryan stands a great show of carrying
their vote.

EUGENE'S FEDERAL
BUILDING PLANS READY
Eugene, Oct. 21. The plans for
Eugene's. $70,000 federal building are
hero, Through the courtesy of Post
master Page we were shown them
yesterday and they are fully up to the
requirements. The building Is 82x48
fcyt on the ground, and will be located
some distance "back from Willamette
and West Sixth 'street, but not in the
filter .of the site which the plans
show Is to be handsomely landscaped
with driveways, flower gardens, lawn,
etc. The basement and first floor
plans a,re an exact reproduction of the
plans given before for the $50,000
building.
The building is rather handsome in
3esign. On either side of the . main
arched entrance Is a large arched
window, allowing light into the lobby.
All the other windows are rectangu
lar and those on the second story are'
much smaller than the ones below. It
Is to be built of pressed brick and
trimmed with cut stone and is to be
made of first-class materials. It will
suit the location admirably and will
add prestige to the city to every visitor
who comes within our bounds.
The estimated cost Is $55,000. This
will leave $15,000 for fixing up the
outside, 4 cement walks, etc. Bids are
to be In by November 7, and it may
be possible something may bo done
toward building It during the winter.
It will prouubly be a year before w
get into It.
